It strikes me that so many couples really don't enjoy talking to each other...truly talking. They're sharing adventures together, going places and doing things, but they're failing to connect. I also am drawn to witty and insightful people, as long as that's not coupled with arrogance or cynicism (the glass-half-empty person is ultimately not for me). I don't need someone who's mindlessly upbeat, of course, but a fundamental optimism can be a very nice thing in a partner. Another way to put it is that I enjoy someone with a spirit of adventure--a person who feels that life is for living fully, experiencing new things and savoring the good times. For my part, I'm quite happy with my life: I love my work. At the same time, I know how wonderful it can be to share life with someone who "connects" with you in ways that create a deep and satisfying bond. For me, that comes closest to defining the ideal relationship |
